The highly respected GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification means our wool meets strict requirements on toxicity and biodegradability. The sheep are raised responsibly and allowed to graze freely on certified organic farms. Our wool provides an additional layer of comfort and acts as a natural flame retardant, which allows us to meet government regulations while eliminating your exposure to the chemical flame retardants found in conventional mattresses.
What type of cotton do you use?
We use GOTS certified organic cotton. The organic cotton is handpicked to ensure its purity. The fabric is free from polyester fibers, pesticides and chemical flame retardants. It provides you with a soft, comfortable sleeping surface that is both safe and durable.
The Global Organic Textile Standard, also known as GOTS, provides an organic certification program that is respected internationally. These strict standards ensure that manufactured textiles, like our cotton fabric, are processed and handled with organic integrity—from raw material sources, to manufacturing practices, and all the way to the finished product.
What type of latex do you use?
We exclusively use 100% all-natural, GOLS certified organic and OEKO-TEX certified Dunlop latex in our mattresses. Our organic latex provides a superior comfort layer that conforms to your body. Compared to conventional polyurethane foams, latex is more resilient, more breathable and safer. It is also resistant to mold, mildew and dust mites. Naturally-sourced latex is better for the environment because it is renewable, recyclable and biodegradable.
Latex is made from the sap of rubber trees. The Global Organic Latex Standard, also known as GOLS, certifies that the growing of rubber trees used for latex and the manufacturing processes meet organic requirements and that the latex does not contain harmful materials.
Are there any chemical flame retardants in your mattresses?
As you are probably aware, the government requires all mattresses to pass burn tests. We don’t use any harmful chemical flame retardants in our mattresses. We are able to pass both the 1633 open flame test and 1632 cigarette test by quilting natural wool into the organic cotton cover of your mattress. Wool is a natural flame retardant and was used in years past to make firemen’s coats.
Why do you button tuft your mattresses?
Our Pure Echo, Natural Escape, Kiwi and Kiwi Bunk Bed mattresses are tufted by hand to secure the layers of each mattress together without using dangerous chemical adhesives. Tufting is a technique that dates back hundreds of years and is now used by only the finest mattress makers. Tufting makes our mattresses very durable by preventing shifting or bunching of the comfort layers during shipping and throughout the life of the mattress. Tufting also pre-compresses the innerspring to ensure each mattress has a consistent feel for many years to come.
Our tufts are evenly spaced across each mattress. Each tuft is made by lacing a thin polyester cord from the bottom of your mattress, through the comfort layers, and then through the quilted top layer. The cord is then secured to the top of the mattress with a small circular piece of felt. The cord is made from polyester, because it needs to be strong enough to hold the compressed mattress. The cord features a thin metal aglet made from non-recycled American steel that holds the tufting cord in place and keeps it’s end from fraying, just like a shoelace.
Are your mattresses compliant with California Proposition 65?
Yes, our mattresses have been tested by the UL corporation to be compliant with California Proposition 65, also known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.
Are your mattresses GREENGUARD Gold certified?
Yes, all of our mattresses are GREENGUARD Gold certified, which means they have passed testing with the most sensitive of individuals in mind. Visit the UL website here to view certifications on each of our mattresses. View additional UL lab tests here.
What are the benefits of sleeping on a latex mattress?
There are many reasons to choose a natural latex mattress. Our latex mattresses conform to your body and alleviate pressure to offer extraordinary orthopedic support. Latex is resilient and is the most durable cushioning material available; it provides years of restful sleep without sagging. The cell structure of latex makes your mattress breathable, which means you will be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
Latex is also ideal for allergy sufferers. It is naturally hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant, and antimicrobial, which inhibits the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew. With no worries about chemicals, and no tossing and turning, you will sleep more deeply and awaken ready for a new day.
Is your latex independently tested?
Yes, our latex carries the following certifications:
Our mattresses do not have a chemical odor, nor do they off-gas any dangerous chemicals. However, you may notice natural odors from organic cotton and wool that are more pronounced in humid climates. Any smell will dissipate quickly. If you are sensitive to these natural odors we recommend airing out your new mattress or leaving it in the sun in a dry climate before sleeping on your new bed.
What is the difference between natural latex and memory foam?
The natural latex rubber used in our mattresses is derived from the sap of the rubber tree, while memory foam is a chemically produced synthetic petroleum product. Natural latex is safer for people with chemical sensitivities, is more durable, and normally outlasts memory foam. Most people find natural latex more comfortable; memory foam does not circulate heat effectively and has a sinking feeling. The latex in our mattresses is breathable, resilient and conforming for the best night’s sleep possible.
I have a latex allergy, what can I do?
Allergic reactions to the natural latex used in our mattresses are rare, but possible. Less than one percent of the population experiences allergic reactions when coming in direct contact with natural latex. It is much more common to have allergies to the synthetic latex blends used in gloves.
We cannot guarantee that our products will be non-allergenic for everyone. If you are concerned about a latex allergy, please contact us to request a free sample. At a doctor’s discretion, you can test for a skin reaction by taping the sample latex to your arm overnight. We also offer a latex-free mattress option. The Pure Echo is an all-natural mattress handcrafted with a medium-firm innerspring that is upholstered with organic cotton and wool comfort layers.
Is it normal for my mattress to have a body impression?
Our mattresses contain lofty filling materials like wool, organic cotton, and latex that will compress when you first start sleeping on your new mattress. We recommend rotating the mattress, head to foot, once a month for the first 3 months, to ensure that it breaks in evenly. After this period, we recommend rotating it once a season (or every 3-4 months) to prevent body impressions.
How does the 100-night trial/returns work?
Your mattress is a long-term investment in your comfort and health. We want to make sure you are happy with your new mattress for years to come. My Green Mattress offers a 100-night Sleep Trial with an opportunity to exchange or return your mattress at any time during the trial period. Although every one of our mattresses is eligible for a return for a full refund, we offer one exchange per household (exchanges are accepted for another model, not for another size). Should you decide to make an exchange, you will be charged the difference of the cost of the new mattress. Please note that exchanged mattresses are final sale and not eligible for return.

Mattress toppers carry the same 100 Night Sleep Trial as our mattresses, however, we require that you ship the topper back in its original packaging (or equivalent) along with a return shipping label that we will provide you.

An exchanged mattresses is not eligible to be returned or exchanged and is considered a final sale.

Free shipping is offered via FedEx and applies to the contiguous 48 United States. Additional shipping fees are calculated for orders going to Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada. Terms are subject to change and are void where prohibited by law.
How will my mattress be packaged and how do I open it?
Mattresses delivered by FedEx are roll-packed in heavy duty plastic wrap and placed in a cardboard box for added protection from possible damage during shipping. Watch our roll packing video.
Open your mattress in the bedroom where you plan to keep it. We always recommend having two people lift our mattresses as they are heavy. Place the roll-packed mattress on your foundation. Locate the seam of the mattress and cut the plastic along it, being careful not to cut your mattress. The mattress is compressed so it will unroll quickly. Once unwrapped, your mattress should be ready to sleep on immediately. Watch this video of our customers unwrapping their new mattress so you know what to expect! We do recommend unwrapping the mattress right away, or within four weeks of receiving it, to prevent any issues that may void your warranty.
Do I need a box spring or platform bed? Can I use an adjustable bed base?
Any firm flat surface will work for your new mattress, including the floor. If you choose a slatted foundation or boxspring, we recommend that the slats be no more than 3 inches apart. If you are not sure, try adding a bunkie board or piece of plywood between the slatted foundation and the mattress. The flat surface will offer the proper support needed.
All of our mattresses can be used with an adjustable bed base.
