Get Ready for Summer: DIY Sunscreen & Bug Repellenton Jun 04, 2016
Summer is officially here and in honor if it, we’re sharing some summertime necessity recipes for sunscreen and bug repellant.
DIY Sunscreen - This is a lower SPF sunscreen (10-15), based on the natural SPFs of the ingredients used. You can make it a higher SPF by adding more of the non-nano zinc powder. Always test a patch of skin before using on the full body. Homemade sunscreens tend to last about six months and should not be kept in direct sunlight.
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup shea butter
2 tablespoons NON Nano Zinc Oxide
1 teaspoon carrot oil
Fill the bottom of a double broiler with water and set to medium heat.
Combine all ingredients except zinc oxide in the double boiler.
As the water heats, the ingredients will start to melt.
Stir occasionally to incorporate.
When all ingredients are completely melted, add the zinc oxide, and stir in well.
Once combined, pour into small glass containers, like the smallest size bell jars.
Stir a few times as the mixture cools to make sure that the zinc oxide is incorporated.
Once it’s set, it’s ready to use.
DIY Bug Repellant - good for mosquitos and ticks
